Drew was born in Glasgow. He trained at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. He is best known for playing James Herriot Senior in All Creatures Great and Small, but he has popped up on TV in all sorts of other stuff, such as Bank of Dave and My Parents Are Aliens. By some strange quirk of fate he’s been cast as a kindly Scottish psychiatrist in Eastenders, Hollyoaks and Coronation Street. Maybe he just has one of those compassionate looking faces and sympathetic voices. Who knows?

Drew spent his formative years living in West Africa and Saudi Arabia. His first ever pet was an orphaned monkey. He is fanatical about Columbo. Don’t get him started on Columbo. You’ll wish you hadn’t asked.
